CLTs give a novel form of agency to communities and demonstrate that ordinary people can solve the challenges that they are facing, directly countering the narrative that low-income and marginalized communities need to be saved by an outsider. Some CLTs are already providing housing-first homes, while others have supported ‘hidden homelessness’ cases and prevented homelessness. People who have recently experienced homelessness have been able to participate in and be leaders of CLTs.
We are looking for support to better understand how CLTs currently empower and include people experiencing homelessness, and enable wider application of CLTs as a solution for those most vulnerable.
For an example of a CLT providing Housing First homes, click here to learn more about the CALICO project from CLT Brussels, which provides two housing first homes.
